Baro may have just turned 18, but you wouldn’t know it by listening to his music. That’s not because his songs have a message that’s particularly mature. Instead, it’s because the production and beats laced throughout his material have a sound that’s reminiscent of generations past. He takes elements of traditional soul music and jazz rap to create the foundation for his music, then adds his fresh, laid back flow to give it a modern twist.

We first heard Baro’s ability to bridge the two styles on his song “Bears,” and now the Australian rapper is showcasing it on a larger scale throughout his new EP. The project is titled 17/18 in honor of his transition from a 17-year-old to an 18-year-old, and tackles subjects you’d expect to go along with such a milestone.

The EP officially drops July 10, but you can stream the entire project below before it’s released.
