Maryland-raised D.C. native KAMAU has a sound that can't be easily described. On his A Gorgeous Fortune EP, KAMAU was able to showcase his incredible range, featuring a collection of evocative, playful, and vibrant songs that leave a strong impression.
Today, the rapper/singer is back with a new song that sees him focus on his singing. On "MINT," KAMAU connects with Brooklyn vocalist Talibah Safiya and Dave Monks' Tokyo Police Club (the latter produced the track) for a raw and soulful offering.
According to KAMAU, who spoke to The FADER about "MINT," the song is "about romance born naked amongst adversity." He reveals that "MINT" was written at a time where, "because of my struggling financial situation and spartan living arrangement (a bed made of summer clothes)," he was able to see the true intentions of others. And, as a result, he penned one of his most honest and raw songs yet.
