Watch Courtney Barnett Cover Grateful Dead's "New Speedway Boogie" on 'Fallon'

Courtney Barnett performs her 'Day of the Dead' contribution on 'Fallon.'

Along with The National, Kurt Vile, Angel Olsen, and many others, Courtney Barnett has made her own cover for the star-studded Grateful Dead Day of the Dead tribute compilation. In promotion of its release, Barnett appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her contribution to the album, “New Speedway Boogie,” from 1970’s Workingman’s Dead.

Day of the Dead is a compilation put together to benefit the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. The compilation was released on May 20.

Last weekend, Courtney Barnett appeared on Saturday Night Live as musical guest and performed “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party” and “Pedestrian at Best,” both from her excellent 2015 album, Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit, which we named one of the best albums of the year. Revisit that here, and watch her Fallon performance above.
