Recently, ’90s R&B group Blackstreet experienced an unexpected career resurgence thanks to a “No Diggity” performance in the a cappella film Pitch Perfect. So when R&B’s latest revelation Kwabs took to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, he decided to tackle one of the group’s other well-known songs “Don’t Leave Me.” With Kwabs’ newest SOHN collaboration “Wrong Or Right,” it became evident that he fits into that melodic contemporary R&B of the mid-’90s groove smoothly, making his cover of “Don’t Leave Me” sound effortless. He scales the song back a bit, giving it more of an organic feel and harmonizing with a female backup singer. Honestly, if you put Kwabs on stage with Blackstreet even today, no one would question a thing. It makes that much sense.
