Raw, Vol. 1 was one of this summer’s bright spots, and Azekel has wasted no time in getting back to his craft. “The War Inside” is the first cut off the appropriately titled Raw, Vol. 2 EP, due out in early 2016. It was recorded in London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios as a result of Azekel winning Converse’s “Rubber Tracks” competition.

This is an Azekel track right from the jump, with synths reminiscent of Jai Paul darting out beneath the British singer’s breathy, deceptively fragile voice.

All is not well on “The War Inside,” and Azekel’s singular production gives the resulting track a seductive, moody, conflicted feel. It’s taken over the top by some new production tricks—there are multiple moments where the beat hiccups or drops out altogether—Azekel absolutely destroyed this one.
