Listen to Karen O's Nellie Bly Tribute for Google Doodle

The Google Doodle series is endlessly entertaining and a daily way to pretend you’re a learned student of history. Today is the 151st birthday of Nellie Bly, described by Mother Jones as an “all-around feminist badass.”

Bly was a trailblazing journalist at the turn of the 19th century, exposing a corrupt insane asylum by posing as a patient and taking a globe-trotting trip in 1889 that inspired Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days.”

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs decided to commemorate Nellie’s accomplishments through a collaboration with animator Kathy Wu. It’s a sweet acoustic tribute, and it’s good to hear Karen O’s pipes used with a feather-light touch as they were on her Crush Songs.

Stream the resulting Google Doodle above. Happy Birthday, Nellie!
