The third release from Blur’s forthcoming Magic Whip album came just in time for Damon Albarn’s birthday. The group’s frontman turned 47 today, and they’re celebrating with a return to their Britpop roots.
“Lonesome Street” is a nice Monday morning pick-me-up, full of jangling guitars and wiggly synths. From what we’ve heard so far, Blur has not let the time between albums change their songwriting approach. They’ve picked up a few new bells and whistles, but the solid rock foundation is still going strong. Magic Whip will release April 28.
