Ta-ku ft. Chet Faker - "Mahal"

1.

I’ve been sitting on this track for a few days struggling with the proper way to describe it. While it doesn’t exactly fit into any particular mold, it could certainly be mentioned in the same breath as works from Toro Y Moi, Com Truise, Washed Out and even Clams Casino. It carries a heavy beat with that trippy, syrupy sound that tends to now play both sides of the fence between electro and what’s become a new wave of cool hip-hop.

For “Mahal” Ta-ku calls on his fellow Aussie mate Chet Faker to bring a layer of vocals to the party. You may recall Faker’s fuzzy rendition of “No Diggity” from earlier in the year. He’s definitely on the rise and will be making his way to the States for a SXSW appearance next spring, so mark your damn calendars for that one. In the meantime enjoy this and other tracks from Ta-ku’s Late NYC EP below.
