In preparation for their debut studio LP, Brooklyn indie-rock quartet Ski Lodge have recently released this uptempo new punk-pop record entitled, “Just To Be Like You.” On the surface it’s a high-spirited, carefree tune, but one deeper dig into the lyrics will reveal a heavy, much more solemn undertone. “You were a simple man with a simple life, but you drank yourself into a tomb,” sings frontman Andrew Marr, shifting the emotional course of this track with a single striking sentence. That contradictory overlay of playful music and potent subject matter gives the song nice depth while still remaining light and catchy.
