The Pixies Announce New Release "EP-1" Available Today

None

After the news that Kim Deal would no longer be part of The Pixies, their release of the new track “Bagboy” in June seemed surprising. But now, in an interview with the New York Times, Charles Thompson—lead singer Black Francis—announced that the band will soldier on without Deal, and have planned a series of mini-releases in EP format. The first, entitled simply EP-1, comes today with little lead time, along with their second new song since June’s “Bagboy,” this one called “Indie Cindy.”

Produced by the group’s longtime producer Gil Norton, the EP is just one in a series of releases that will be “put out sporadically” over the next 15 months. This initial EP is available in either digital or vinyl form at the band’s website, and they plan to release subsequent EPs in the same way—with no marketing and no label involved.

As far as the departure of their beloved bassist Kim Deal—who is currently on tour with her band The Breeders—Thompson said he wants to focus on the music.

“It took us three days to mourn about it,” Thompson told the Times regarding Deal’s departure. “I hate to say it, but I’m not going to let one snafu get in the way. It’s time to put on the guitar. It’s time to shine. No one is going to take that away from me.”
