Philadelphia’s lackadaisical guitar-genius Kurt Vile announced earlier this year that he’s releasing his fifth studio album Wakin on a Pretty Daze this year. The record officially comes out through Matador Records on April 9, but is streaming a week early via NPR’s First Listen feature.
Vile’s poetic mouthings never feel as listless as they do unplanned, accidental mutterings at the universe that achieve near majestic ends when paired with his spiraling chord progressions and veering solos—indie rock at it’s most indolent and folk held in the fire of modernity until it melts.
