RAC ft. Penguin Prison - "Hollywood"

1.

Since his first remix for The Shins “Sleeping Lessons,” RAC has built a reputation as an extraordinarily talented artist. The word remix can mean a lot of things from genre to genre, but rather than ever falling into a trend, RAC’s imaginings of the indie songs we already knew back to front were able reinterpretations of source material; always able to offer something new. Although his remixes were almost original compositions on their own in their liberal transformation of source material, today sees the long-anticipated first original release from the Portland-based producer/DJ.

Even though RAC’s style was always difficult to really pin down, the combination of live instrumentation and electronic elements always leaned towards disco than anything else. When Penguin Prison was announced as the vocal collaborator for “Hollywood,” it became clear what genre was coming out of this single. RAC clearly has his skills honed down to a point, the remix work transitioning seamlessly into a song that’s inescapable once you’ve played it just once. It’s the funnest, most replayable song you’ll hear today, and I can’t imagine it being anything other than a summer staple.
