DJ Earworm is immortalizing 2016's most popular songs by sharing an insane mash-up of the 25 highest charting songs of the year. He creates one every year as part of his "United State of Pop" series, which he started in 2008. This year's mix features more hip-hop songs than usual, signifying a shift in American popular music. Tracks by D.R.A.M.,Lil Yachty,Rae Sremmurd, and Desiigner are interspersed throughout a mix of pop-leaning hits. Twenty One Pilots makes the most appearances in the mash-up, as three of their songs are incorporated into the video.
The mix begins with The Weeknd'sDaft Punk collaboration "Starboy," a track that garnered a massive amount of attention in recent weeks. It goes on to splice up the 25 songs and string them together into a bouncy, cohesive track. Earworm also uses footage from each song's music video to create an entertaining visual. The mash-up is impressively smooth given how different the 25 songs sound from each other.
