Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the first authorized documentary about the Nirvana frontman, which features the late singer’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain as one of its executive producers, is not set to include Courtney Love’s creative involvement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is despite the fact that Love approached director Brett Morgen about doing the film in the first place.
Nevertheless, Morgen says Love, who’s heading out on a tour with Lana Del Rey, has not been involved in the film for many years. “She gave me the keys to this kingdom and final cut of the film,” he says, before explaining how she wasn’t given creative control. “At a certain point, I started working more closely with [Frances Bean]… We agreed that because Courtney was a subject in the film, it would be best if she wasn’t given editorial control… She hasn’t seen the movie. I’m not sure she’s intending to.”
As THR reports, Frances Bean Cobain tweeted about her excitement regarding the film when it was announced. Love’s account retweeted the post, as you can see in the gallery above. Frances Bean’s relationship with Love has gone through its ups and downs. In 2009, Love criticized her daughter in a Facebook post after losing custody, as reported by MTV. That same year, People reported that Frances Bean placed a restraining order on her mother. However, this year, Love told People that their relationship is “really good.” As reported last month, the film is set to have an international release, but it’s also slated to hit HBO in 2015.
