Although most fans agreed J. Cole's opening verse on his new song "False Prophets" was aimed at Kanye West, there was more debate on who he was referring to in the second verse.
Well, it seems like MMG rapper Wale is pretty adamant that Cole is speaking about him. The verse in question begins with Cole rapping, "I got a homie, he a rapper and he wanna win bad/He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that's been had." The two are known to be close and within the verse Cole seems to be urging the unnamed friend to believe in himself.
Now, Wale has responded to the verse in new track "Groundhog Day," which was produced by Jake One. He begins the track by directly referencing Cole's track, stating, “I’m heavily flawed but far from a false prophet/I’m a motherfucking honorable Folarin."
In the song, he references Cole numerous times and compares both their journeys in the music industry. The DC rapper rhymes, “I remember me and Cole would open for Hov/Every day a star is born/ I guess I died in the womb/I ain’t make it on blueprint so made me a blueprint you got you a nice watch/My minutes was finished/I was lost at Interscope.”
Wale is currently working on his forthcoming SHINE album, his follow-up to 2015's The Album About Nothing.
