Today, Jay IDK, one of the DMV's freshest new voices, shared the music video for his explosive track "Mentality." The song is a standout from his most recent album, Empty Bank, which made history by becoming the first album to ever premiere on Forbes.
The stunning track is paired with an equally stunning visual. The video follows Jay as he returns to inner city London, where he spent the first two years of his life. He explores the streets of the Hackney and Edmonton neighborhoods and captures the spirit of the city. The video also includes a cameo from Scorcher of Top Boy, a trending Netflix series. The brooding, grey skies parallel the dark, moody ambience created by the track.
His October trip to the UK, where he filmed the video, was an emotional and eye-opening journey for the young MC. "Returning was crazy for me, seeing how poverty was so diverse is what stood out the most," he tells CLASH. "Both black people and white people lived in the projects together. In America you never really see that, it's very rare for us."
