When we spoke to duo THEY. last winter, the two discussed how they're able to incorporate their musical influences into their songs, without sounding like carbon copies of them. "The thing with influences is that it’s not going to be like, nor should it be, an apparent thing. It shouldn’t be like, 'Oh that sounds like New Edition,' but it’s more the undercurrent," they explained. Today they show exactly what they mean by this with the release of their new song "Rather Die."

The song flips the guitar riff of Nirvana's "Polly" and utilizes it to create a new track that is entirely their own. You can feel the dark, moody spirit of Nirvana, but it has a refreshed vibe thanks to the delicate reworking of the L.A.-based duo.

"We were vibing out on guitar and started playing "Polly,'" THEY. said in an email to Fader. "Its just one of those riffs that hits you from the first moment you hear it. Before we knew it, we have our own song to it."
