It was revealed last month that a grand jury indicted Troy Ave on one count of second degree murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon—as opposed to facing charges of first degree murder—over the deadly shooting in New York back in May. While the felonies charged would not be as heavily punished as a first degree murder charge, Troy Ave could still earn decades in prison.

According to the New York Daily News, Troy Ave was released from jail Monday morning on a $500,000 bail, under the conditions that he is to wear an ankle monitor remain within New York City and stay away from bars, venues, concert halls and other performance spaces while the investigation continues.

Troy Ave has been in police custody since May 25, the day after the shooting at Irving Plaza that left Ronald McPhatter—Troy’s friend and bodyguard—dead, and three others injured. Troy injured his own leg during the incident as well.

New York Daily News also reports that police found a gun at the scene of the crime that matched the ballistics taken from the scene in a “secret compartment” in the rapper’s car, but not the gun he was seen firing in the security footage.

Scott Leemon, Troy Ave’s attorney, maintains that Troy Ave is a victim in this situation, though the Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass believes that Troy has yet to be cleared as a murder suspect at this point.

Not long after the shooting, Troy Ave broke his silence and shared his side of the story through a mixtape titled Free Troy Ave, which you can listen to in full here.
