Lil Yachty Calls Hot 97 and Challenges Ebro's Criticism

Lil Yachty wasn't just going to sit back when Ebro called him a "high school ass rapper."

If you still haven’t listened to Lil Yachty, this clip might help you understand the divisive nature of his music a little better. This morning on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning, Ebro brought up Lil Yachty and made it very clear that he’s not a fan. While Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez disagreed and seemed to appreciate Yachty, Ebro maintained that Yachty is a “high school ass rapper” and believes that his song “For Hot 97” was written because Yachty was offended by Ebro’s criticism.

Ebro’s main complaint, though, is that Yachty doesn’t have good bars. While he isn’t expecting Nas-level bars, he wants to challenge young rappers to come for him, telling them to “get their bars up.” So, calling Ebro’s bluff, Lil Yachty unexpectedly called in to the radio show to specifically discuss “For Hot 97.”

Lil Yachty clears the air during their conversation, telling Ebro that he had the wrong idea and said that “For Hot 97” isn’t meant to be a diss, but instead, it was written to show off his ability as a rapper. All’s well that ends well, though, as it was all respect coming from both sides.

“He’s going to keep on trying to act mad,” Rosenberg tells Yachty in the clip.” But I can tell he respects the shit out of you for calling up here and talking shit, bro.” Ebro also acknowledges the work that Yachty puts in, encouraging him to continue pushing.

Last night, Lil Yachty released his Summer Songs 2 mixtape, which features the song in question, “For Hot 97.” Listen to Summer Songs 2 here.
