The New Wave is a feature we’ll be presenting every Tuesday. It will highlight one song we’re currently obsessed with, by a new or rising artist.

What we say:

After displaying the full breadth of their creative talents with the incredible “Hostage” video, Norway’s Klangstof returned this week with the devastatingly beautiful “We Are Your Receiver.” The sweeping guitar chords and full-kit percussion will envelop you in its waves, and goosebumps abound when the choral vocals hit. This is further proof that rock is alive and well, and the best stuff is coming from Scandinavia.

What they say:

“…It’s about leaving our offline selves behind. ‘Likes’ are a very addictive drug to people nowadays, and that scares the hell out of me. It’s like we need a constant confirmation of how good and popular we are. Even if we’re out running in the park, or having dinner with friends.

‘We get all the knowledge that you need / Four will drown and one will cross the sea / We are your receiver / I need no more to stay alive’

“The lyrics are all about us filtering out the bad bits. Getting rid of those ugly selfies and deleting all the bad comments. It seems like a very normal thing to do. But in the end it destroys the realness. Showcasing only the best is extremely boring. You need to show the lows as well, and to be honest, I can’t. And I think almost no one can.

“It’s a very important theme that’s all over the record, artwork and videos. It’s about this disguise we wear and aren’t able to get rid of.”
