Jazz Cartier: Fuel & The Fire

Toronto’s Jazz Cartier dropped his second full-length album back in February. It’s an absolutely massive release, bursting with the rabid energy and operatic songwriting that have made Jazz’s shows the stuff of legend. The album was a surprise, and a free one at that.

Production for Paranoia was largely shouldered by Jazz’s longtime producer Lantz—and to hear Jazz talk about it, Lantz will be taking on an even larger role on upcoming projects.

When we met up with Jazz shortly after the album’s release, it was too cold to be outside. But Roosevelt Island’s Four Freedoms Park, the backdrop for our shoot, is even more beautiful in the winter, and it’s a decidedly exposed place. Thankfully Jazz has retained his Canadian durability when it comes to weather, and we were able to come away from the freeze mostly unscathed.

Watch the video interview above to hear why this may have been his last album recorded in Toronto, what we can expect from the next album, and why Jazz won’t be charging people for his music anytime soon.
