A lot has changed since I Changed a Lot, DJ Khaled’s 2015 studio album. Most obviously, he became a larger-than-life meme. Now we’re about to find out if this online popularity can translate to sales: Khaled announced today that his record label, We the Best Music Group, has entered into an agreement with Epic Records, but more importantly, Khaled announced that he has a new album on the way: Major Key.
He made the announcement earlier today with an over-the-top Instagram video, which was captioned, “BREAKING NEWS: It’s WeTheBest/Epic. My new album #MAJORKEY is coming!🔑🙏🏽 After weeks of consideration I have made a decision on where to land the biggest brand in the game. A brand that has been built from the ground up. A brand that I have spent my entire life building even before I have it a name. Today I proudly announce my new partnership with La Reid and Epic Records. We The Best Music/Epic. Those two brands are synonymous with quality music. Iconic music.”
Khaled went on to say that Epic Records founder L.A. Reid was the first executive to provide Khaled with the opportunity to “distribute my music on a grand scale.” He also put out a call for new talent, so if you see Khaled in the streets, put a mixtape in his hand: “And to all aspiring superstars across the globe I say this I AM SEARCHING FOR NEW TALENT TO PRESENT TO THE WORLD! When it comes to breaking new artists, no one does it better than WE THE BEST MUSIC!!”
