Best Free Downloads of the Week

Every Sunday we collect the best free music we can find and put it all in one place. If you fell behind or just feel like building up your iTunes, we've got you covered. Here are the week's best free downloads, in no particular order.

1.

2. Jazz Cartier - "Red Alert"

Jazz Cartier gifted fans with a whole album this week, and Hotel Paranoia is hardly a mixtape of throwaways and B-sides. It's full of hard-hitting production, jagged raps, and vivid scenes.

"Red Alert" is incredibleā€”the ominous, persistent piano loop gives Jazz plenty of room to exercise his vocal range, from the squeaky "SKRRT" to the chorus' bellowing baritone. Stream/download the whole tape below.

3. John Keek ft. Georgia Anne Muldrow & Reinier Baas - "By Your Side"

John Keek is crafting jazz-rock gems that are full of unexpected twists and his heavenly vocals.

"By Your Side" benefits from a couple choice features from Georgia Anne Muldrow and Reinier Baas, but it's Keek's showā€”the singer/songwriter/saxophonist is crafting ensemble pieces where everyone gets to shine, and he's breaking new ground along the way.

4. Death Grips - "Hot Head"

Death Grips' latest, which dropped out of nowhere, marksĀ an impressive return for the mysterious, provocative group. It's raw and in your face, sure, but with a surprisingly psychedelic breakdown. Great stuff.

5. Armani White - "Chevalier's Ode"

When we got familiar with Armani White through "Stick Up" and "Secret Handshake," it was immediatelyĀ clear that he couldĀ spit. He is the definition of a technically talented rapper, and he proves it again on "Chevalier's Ode," especially from 1:12 onwards. Armani is making big plansĀ for 2016, so look out for the Philly native as he continues to grow.

6. Kaiydo - "Arcade"

When you sample an amazing song like Sampha's "Without," you better be able to measure up to the original. Luckily, Kaiydo came prepared. "Arcade" is a unique twist on the 2013 classic, heralding the arrival of a fresh new voice.

The graphic designer-turned-musician is still stretching his music legs, but he's already discovered some essential truths: "Every melody has a certain mood," he told us, "a certain temperature, a certain feel. Making songs and album artwork, you get to see first hand how the things we hear correlate with the things we see. I could stare at a red wall while listening to a song and get a completely different feel than if I was looking at a blue one."

7. AJ Tracey's "Spirit Bomb" Remix

AJ Tracey is one of grime's rising stars, and "Spirit Bomb," from his excellent Alex MoranĀ EP,Ā is one of his hardest tracks to date. To celebrate, AJ called up a gang of friends for a stacked remixĀ featuring Dave, PK, Skits (Piff Gang), Central Cee, Merky Ace x Cadell, Drifter, Capo Lee, and Trims.

Grab the downloadĀ below and read our Daily Discovery interview with AJ here.

8. vōx x O Mer - "The Smell Of The Blood"

These two artists teamed up after vōx discovered O Mer on P&P, and it's paying off in a big way on "The Smell Of The Blood." O Mer's experimental production and warm synths pair beautifully with vox's breathy, urgent vocals, and the resulting song is exhilarating from start to finish.

9. Mikey Dollaz ft. Obey City - "Hot Boy"

"Hot Boy" is a two-part song, and Mikey Dollaz went in for both halves. With Obey City providing some equally massive production, Mikey Dollaz has given us plenty of reasons to get excited for his Picture Me Rollin' mixtape, out February 19.

10. X ARI - "Float Away"

X ARI is the solo project of Jess Fairfax, and "Float Away" is a stunning introduction. The Australian artist is in possession of some seriously velvety vocals, and a wholehearted commitment to music: she hosts a radio show and works to support refugee and asylum-seeking musicians.

"When I think about what Iā€™m doing now and how entrenched I am in music," Fairfax told us, "I know there is nothing else I could be doing as itā€™s all I know."

11. Kevin Abstract - "SAVE"

Throwback time. The working relationship between Kevin Abstract and Romil was hitting its stride when the Texas rapper released "SAVE" last year. It's a gauzy haze of electric guitars and vocals dripping in reverb. It was the beginning of something great.

12. Copout & Halp - "System 2"

Prepare for no-holds-barred club weight from Copout and the wonderfully named Halp. The Brooklyn-based CopoutĀ and Amsterdam resident Halp teamed up for a three track collaborative effort, and it's designed to give your speakers a workout.

Listen to "System 2" and grab all three free tracks from the pair here.
