Gina Kushka and Jay Weathers have teamed up for three tracks thus far, and they have yet to take a wrong turn. “Hurtproof” follows on the heels of “Bring It Down” and finds the London singer taking all the right cues from massive voices like Sia. It’s a soaring, confident cut that came about, ironically, through crippling self-doubt.
“Since I was very small, I’ve felt things pretty intensely,” Kushka told us over email. “I always thought that I didn’t fit in or that it was abnormal to feel things so deeply. I had to find a way of protecting myself, so I created the concept of being ‘Hurtproof.'”
