In response to yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, France, Yasiin Bey has a simple and direct message for responsible parties: “F*** off, ISIS.”

That’s what the artist formerly known as Mos Def said in a conversation with Ferrari Sheppard for A Country Called Earth shortly after news of the tragedies broke on Friday. Jumping off from that point, Bey went on to say that a lack of empathy is the root issue of global violence.

“Love must and will prevail. I don’t care how corny it sounds,” he said. “The world has been in a state of emergency. The problem is not Islam [or] organized religion. The problem is people’s lack of compassion and care for themselves and their fellow human beings. We don’t treat each other well. We need to treat each other better.”

Bey also shared a new song called “NO Colonial Fiction,” which features a photo of police brutality victim Tamir Rice on its cover art.
