What started as a standard internet wormhole has grown into something much more. Ryan Hemsworth started his Secret Songs series by doing what came naturally: connecting with like-minded artists on SoundCloud and tossing out a like here, a repost there.
His role as a casual tastemaker started turning heads, and Hemsworth’s electronic community has gone on to release a swath of exciting, manic singles—including the artist’s own Taking Flight EP. That project was recorded with Lucas, one of the strangers who became a co-conspirator through Secret Songs.
We caught up with Ryan in Central Park to talk about the inception of Secret Songs, what his plans are for its future (they’ve started putting on live events), and what it means to be independent in 2015’s music world.
