The 10 Best Bad Nickelback Remixes

We understand that Nickelback is low-hanging fruit, and that making fun of them is almost never clever, funny, or observant. We understand that most of the hate directed towards these givers of "Photograph" is a product of the snowball effect the internet community has when they collectively latch onto a target.

We actually have nice things to say about the band. They've sold over 23 million albums in the United States, about eight million of those copies of their 2005 hit All The Right Reasons. The group has put out a fine enough product to appeal to a large portion of music-buying humanity. They've inspired a lot of feelings from a lot of people, and sometimes, those people express those feelings in... peculiar ways.

We're not trying to bully anybody: everybody goes through weird phases in their youth, and a lot of these remixes are pretty tongue-in-cheek anyway. We did it because seeing the work Nickelback has inspired out of their followers is fascinating, and we thought you'd enjoy what the obscure reaches of the internet have to offer.

2. “Gomez MEP: Nickelback Remix, Part 1”

We didn't realize that horses were so emotional, or that those intense equine feelings are amplified tenfold when set to the poignant "Nickelback Remix" by GomeztheWolf.

Throughout this list, you may find us short on words, because these remixes—a term we will sometimes use loosely—are absolutely meant to speak for themselves. That said, if the emotional journey of this horse feels unresolved at the end of this 30-second video, the clips are taken from the 2002 movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Matt Damon plays the horse.

3. “are we havin fun yet (dramatic nickelback remix)”

To be very generous, we hear faint shades of early Yung Lean on this "How You Remind Me" remix by GOLGOTHA. Like the previous horse-centric remix, this Nickelback reinterpretation also comes from a morose place: the song was tagged on Soundcloud as "#i made this alone in my basement." A piece of advice: wait for the flute drop.

4. “Cadbury Gorilla Nickelback Remix”

So this "Woke Up This Morning" remix isn't technically a remix per se, but a mashup with an old Cadbury ad. It's also a behind-the-scenes look at Nickelback's songwriting process. We're kidding. But seriously.

5. “Photograph (Ookay Bar Fight Remix)”

Nickelback tried to modernize their sound this year with the disco-inspired "She Keeps Me Up," but they were about three years too late to ride the "Get Lucky" wave Daft Punk created.

What they should have done is gone trap. They didn't, but Ookay drew up a little blueprint in case they ever change their mind. The build-up and drop is basically the inverse of what these professional trolls did.

6. “my remix nickelback ft eminem”

JULIE BROWN made a Nickelback and Eminem mashup.

By that, we mean that she laid parts of "Real Slim Shady" and "Next Go Round" on top of each other without regard for tempo, key, or aesthetic pleasure in Audacity, haphazardly fading the songs into and out of each other like she mixed two colors of Play-doh and was left with an ugly brown lump.

7. “Never Gonna Be Alone (DJ Timakoff Remix)”

With Nickelback, you're never gonna be alone, unless you're making YouTube videos on the school bus.

Jokes aside, we're impressed: when the song picks up, the video speed doubles but TonyTime17's mouthed lyrics remain in sync, which means he either memorized how fast the song would be at half-speed and adjusted his performance accordingly, or (more likely) he had a half-speed version of the song on his audio player and did his lip sync to that. Either way, we appreciate the legwork, kid.

8. "Photograph - Nickelback [Dubstep Remix]"

This is less a remix and more a rendering of how "Photograph" would have sounded if Chad Kroeger mixed the song during a fever dream. There may also be a mystical spell embedded in this one, because we can't seem to stop listening to it. We were waiting for the dubstep drop, but the whole song is actually one big descent... into the madness of our deepest subconscious fears. Hope tries to hold on, but our hands are too sweaty for hope to get a firm grip, so we slip, deeper and deeper...

9. “I Wanna Be An All Star”

If it wasn't for the chorus, which just doesn't work, this could be pretty great. It has all the right ingredients: Smash Mouth, Chris Tucker samples, and a nice "word to your mother" to close the festivities, but it's missing a certain something that leaves it falling short. Instead, we're left with a track that's not quite good enough for Neil Cicierega's hilarious Smash Mouth mash-up album, Mouth Sounds.

10. “RE: Nickelback, Savin' Me”

We're making a huge exception to include this entry our list: it's not a remix at all, but one of the best fan-made music videos that is unfairly toiling in obscurity on YouTube. The only reason this isn't number one is because it's not an actual remix.

Again, we're not looking to tear into this guy and make him feel bad about something he obviously worked very hard on, but harenil uploaded this video as a high schooler in 2006, so I'm sure that looking back now, he sees how unintentionally hilarious his passionate tribute to Nickelback is.

We won't get into specifics and spoil the video, but we will say that for being a homemade production, harenil kept thing pretty tight and very literal. Be on the lookout for the all-too-brief leaf pile clip.

11. “really cool nickelback remix”

To be a good bad remix, a song has to be of laughably low quality while having a high guilty pleasure factor and a gimmick that plays off the source material in an "I see what you did there" way. Sometimes, all it takes is jacking the track volume up really high, messing with the lyrics a little bit, and not overstaying your welcome to make something great.

FatPlaysGames: we are very proud of you. This is one really cool Nickelback remix. Here's a GIF for your efforts:
