Last Friday, the artist formerly known as Mos Def dropped a new song called “Basquiat Ghostwriter.” It came without warning, and in the wake of the recent Lupe Fiasco rap battle challenge, it was oddly tagged on SoundCloud with #LupeFiasco, leading many to believe it was some kind of diss song or response track. But Yasiin Bey’s message seems more focused on art, peace, and Basquiat. “Lyrics taken from Jean-Michel’s paintings, graffiti and notebook sketches,” he said in a note released with the song. “Make peace and be grateful.”
