2. DJ Cam: Inverted Audio Mix #183
A familiar name for anyone who has a healthy appetite in hip-hop DJ-slash-producers, DJ Cam, like his contemporaries DJ Krush and DJ Shadow, knows a couple of things about how construct a mix. Case in point being his beautifully crafted contribution to Inverted Audio's catalog of mixes.
It may not be fair to cast favourites, or to start implying that number one on this list signifies being the best of the best, but this week that may just be the case? See if you agree.
3. Kahn: Dancehall Mix
The "all vinyl mix for Cool-Hand-Luke's Dancehall Report show that went live on Deja Vu FM" from man like Kahn was shared online a little over a week ago, and it's a little bit.. what's the word... banging? One to put your sub to work, we invite you to either pull up a chair, to shout "PULLLL UPPPPP" repeatedly, or both. Whatever feels right.
4. How To Dress Well: 'Fuck It Tho' Summer Mix
A couple months ago we featured HTDW's mix for Diplo's BBC residency, and the man known on his birth certificate as Tom Krell has taken his place once again; this time for his 'Fuck It Tho' mix, aka his DJ set recorded at Chicago's East Room during Pitchfork's weekender.
Mixed real nice for y'all, be sure to heed Tom's advice and take in dat transition at the 54:25–55:15 mark between "Realest In The City" and "RGF Island", described humbly (and adequately) as "the best transition of all dj time".
5. DJ Overdose: 'Freaks On The Floor' Mix for Berceuse Heroique
Statistically speaking, some of you reading this are your run-of-the-mill freaks, whereas some of you are straight up on that Rick James spectrum of superfreakiness. This mix by DJ Overdose (known also as Dutch producer Model Man) is suitable listening for the latter. Miami Bass for days, the throwback session was served up by the Berceuse Heroique boys, bringing that noise, and so forth. Jiggle it and wiggle it accordingly.
6. Grandmixxer & Dullah Beatz: Rinse FM Podcast
Grimey enough that buying rubber gloves might be a good idea, Greater London residents Grandmixxer and Dullah Beatz brought out the big guns for a boisterous Rinse FM show near the end of last month and should hold down any roadmen out there looking for a soundtrack.
Rowdy isn't even the word to be honest.
7. Etch: 4 Seasons Mix 015
For 4 Seasons' fifteenth episode of their mix series, Brighton/London-based bass producer Etch recently served up something clocking just over forty minutes and hovers somewhere in the murky depths of D&B, hip-hop and jungle. Also known as Zak Brashill, the man behind this mix will no doubt be planning to bring out music in the same vein via his newly established label Bun The Grid. You be sure we'll be keeping an eye on it/him.
8. Little Dragon: DJ Set for i-D Magazine
Last weekend in London, two of the lads from Little Dragon swooped in swinging on the first leg of (hopefully many) fun pitstops as DJing duo Half Pony. And with pretty much the same level of excellence you'd expect them to bring to a live show, the mix made available by i-D is like music to our ears. In fact, you could say it's, like, really good music to our ears. Or we could just say that there's loads of really good music. Probably would've been easier.
tl;dr: GOOD MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS. HERE. LISTEN. NOW.
9. Don Leisure: It's a Celebration Mix
One to kick back to, this mix by Scottish obscurity Don Leisure sees the producer and evidently above average DJ donning his afterparty hat for the peeps at Darkhouse Family. Put your feet up and feel better about life as you listen to songs by cool people like Thundercat, Pete Rock, Earth, Wind & Fire, Donald Byrd and Dilla.
10. T.Williams: Selector Series Mix 004
Taken from his Radio 1 Residency which was originally broadcast aaall the way back in July, T.Williams' latest mix was made with this year's HARD Festival in mind and the result is sublime. The latest addition to his label Today, Tomorrow Record's mix series, it sees inclusions intended to invigorate: Julio Bashmore, Blawan, Zed Bias, Style of Eye, and of course some tasty treats from Mr T himself.
11. Borrowed Identity: Heads With Tales Mix
Making it summer in your ears wherever you may be, this mix from German producer Borrowed Identity will either warm you if you're in a colder climate, or will suit the temperature perfectly if you plan to play this poolside.
"It's winter in Australia right now, so I send out this mix full of warm grooves and summer vibes from Germany for all the people in Sydney and Melbourne that want to come to the shows end of this month. And dont worry, my sets online are always more chillout than the sets I play in the clubs. I'll also bring some techno & disco with me and everything needed to go bang!"
