From 1991 to 1993, Nirvana was grappling with the bright glare of stardom. Nevermind was taking the world by storm, the pressure of a followup (In Utero) was beginning to manifest, and the band had the full power of a major label at their back.

The resulting recording sessions were held all over the place, from California to Minnesota to Brazil. Many of these takes went unheard, dismissed by the band or simply used as a stepping stone towards the final version. Thanks in part, perhaps, to the recent Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck, a whole slew of Nirvana demos found their way online this past weekend.

They range from the near-finished (“Polly”) to the raw and bloody (“I Hate Myself And Want To Die”). Dive in below, and head over to the RareNirvana YouTube page for the full treatment of uploads.
