The convoluted tale of why Nicki Minaj sent the Barbz after none other than noted reality star Joe Budden begins, as most rap beefs do, with a podcast.

Budden has his own podcast, called (perhaps because he doesn’t want to admit he’s doing a podcast) I’ll Name This Podcast Later. According to SoundCloud, it appears that people actually listen to the musings of Mr. Budden — which is why when he started talking smack about Nicki’s relationship with Meek Mill, it became newsworthy (well, at least as far as podcasts go).

Here’s what he had to say about the couple:

Part of my problem with that is that Meek’s music is too hard. Meek’s music is too hard for me to look at him with this f—ing sappy f— shit. Be the hardcore guy that I’m sure she was attracted to at some point. It’s nasty. I hate everything about it. I’m glad a dark-skinned guy is behaving this way. Light-skinned n—-s, we’re not moving like that…

Light-skinned guys, we’re used to getting the bad bitch. He’s like this bitch just stepped off of f—ing Mars and is the only girl. Oh my God, I just hate it all. But I do appreciate them both keeping the hope of love alive.

Then, all hell broke loose. Meek, who presumably heard about the slight via Twitter, started going in on Budden, calling him (wait for it) a “noodle.” Budden fired back, saying Meek “doesn’t rap well enough to go this route with me.” It was Nicki who (naturally) had the most devastating blow, citing her own lyrics off “Yasss Bish” (“jealousy, jealousy that’s how you feel”) and ending with the hashtag “#podcast.”
