Smash Mouth Singer Loses it During a Show, Threatens to Beat Up a Fan

Smash Mouth is responsible for some of the most corny, fun music of the late ’90s with songs like “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star.” Fans at Taste of Fort Collins in Colorado, a community celebration involving music and food, probably expected a lighthearted show, but they got something very different when Smash Mouth’s lead singer Steve Harwell reacted to fans throwing bread on stage.

Harwell was enraged at the bread-throwing. “You throw one more piece of shit on the fucking stage, I’m gonna come find your ass, I’m gonna beat your ass, whoever the fuck you are out there,” he said into the microphone as the band awkwardly played in the background. “You wanna be a badass? Come up here. Walk your bad ass up here. Come on stage.”

The audience member who uploaded the video to YouTube explained: “This is a family event. He called the crowd p*****? Hardly. Our town has heart. I’d like to personally never invite this man back and kick his butt back into the ’90s. Disgusting. My friend caught this on video.”
