Video: Björk - "Family"

An artist like Bjӧrk demands to be seen as well as heard. Her videos aren’t just extensions of her songs, they’re expansions. Just look at her most recent, the supremely strange and beautiful “Lionsong.”

The visuals for “Family” pick up where “Lionsong” left off: Björk’s heart cavity is still split open, encased in what looks like digitally rendered carbonite. She is slowly reborn in purple goo, stitching the gaping heart back together as the music builds, creating an image both delicate and defiant.

The Icelandic sound queen made the “moving album cover” with Andrew Thomas Huang. Stream it above, and order Vulnicura here.
