Ordinarily I find myself stalking the pages of Pigeons & Planes in search of the good shit. That “call Richard Russell right now” shit. That “boy you late as hell to your friends, when YOU just discovered it yesterday” type shit. That… Wait, where was I going with this? I should end it here before I stray into Worldstar lingo.

You know what I mean though, right? P&P consistently features tunes that will brighten your day first and then burn a hole in your soul until you can share it with someone else equally passionate about new music. That’s part of what makes it beautiful. If we are not on the same page here, I don’t think we could ever share playlists or be friends for that matter.

A few days ago I spent the latter part of an exhausting evening perusing the Pigeons & Planes submission inbox (submissions@pigeonsandplanes.com) and I found my first ray of sunshine in MYAMI. I’m not about ruining surprises so take a listen now, then read on.

MYAMI is a Melbourne-based singer/songwriter who has been honing her craft in her home studio for the past year. If “Soldier” is the product of a bedroom setup, I applaud all parties involved.

This tonsil-jingling tune is ear candy. On “Soldier,” Wayfarer’s production creates a somber but triumphant soundscape, allowing MYAMI the opportunity to sway and climb vocally while finding the pockets necessary to keep you nodding along without a hiccup.

With this only being the debut record, I’m plenty excited to see what MYAMI has planned for her upcoming EP entitled ARMOUR. While we wait, I’ll be learning the words to “Soldier” and hopefully discovering the meaning behind it because I’m definitely mumbling. Feel free to join me so we can look cool together fumbling until the hook carries us.
