Watch Things Spin Out of Control in Modest Mouse's Video for "Lampshades On Fire"

Isaac Brock’s vocal stylings could be described as unhinged, manic, or rabid—in a good way. It’s part of what makes Modest Mouse so great, that frenzied energy that reminds you it’s okay to feel panicked about the ways of the world.

Their latest album (and first in a long while) has articulated those same sentiments thus far: the band swings between walls of sound and feather-light doo-wop parts so smoothly it’s like they’re flicking a light switch on and off, especially on the lead single “Lampshades On Fire.”

The song’s video follows the band (and Natasha Lyonne from “Orange is the New Black”) through a sequence of increasingly insane house parties: fireworks, facial piercings, snapping a mousetrap on your tongue—it’s all there, and it’s as goofy as it is terrifying.
