For the last 25 years, Rick Rubin has been the man in the booth for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The last record produced without Rubin was their 1989, Mother’s Milk. Safe to say DJ Double R lived up to his reputation over the course of those decades in guiding RHCP to global stardom, but the two amicably parted ways in November. DJ Double B, better known as Danger Mouse, may take his place.

Drummer Chad Smith discussed the album with Rolling Stone in December, saying “we’ve written and recorded in a way that we’ve never done before.” Danger Mouse’s prodigious discography includes The Grey Album, Demon Days, Broken Bells, Gnarls Barkley, Danger Doom, and on, and on, and on.
The two have crossed paths before: RHCP toured with Gnarls Barkley in early 2007, and Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer played rock organ with Barkley during and after the tour.
