Angel Haze excises some heartbreak today with another new track off her In the Winter of Wet Years EP. “Gxmes” follows on the heels of “Cxndles,” but the two have very different messages. The first was written while Angel Haze was still with and in love with her girlfriend Ireland Baldwin. “Gxmes” comes after they’ve broken up. Haze posted the song with this explanation on her tumblr:
i thought it would be cool to turn a situation that hurt me
into something i could dance to. troy and i took a bunch of old nintendo video game samples and tucked them behind a trap/pop beat..listen closely :P
Hopefully this helped the heartache fade. It certainly sounds like she put all her energy into it: “Gxmes” is one of Haze’s most high-intensity tracks to date. It’s produced, like “Cxndles,” by TROY NoKA. Stream below:
