Genius has made itself the go-to site for interpreting and decoding lyrics, and now the platform has announced a new partnership that will take their work to the next level. Teaming up with MTV, Genius is unearthing rare, never-before-seen interviews from the late ’90s and, along with a video clip of the interview, will publish full transcriptions with annotations from fans, contributors, and well-known journalists.
The first video revealed is a conversation with Ol’ Dirty Bastard from 1997. In the clip, ODB opens up about struggles in his personal life, difficulty staying clean, his love for Mariah Carey, and the importance of birth control. It’s a real and honest discussion that sheds light on a different side of the rapper. Later this month, unseen interviews with LL Cool J, DMX, Method Man, Cam’Ron, and Red Man will follow.
