Mac DeMarco Sold His Stinky Shoes for $21,000

None

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. How else can you explain a pair of self-proclaimed “stinky shoes” going for thousands of dollars on eBay? Then again, Mac DeMarco is capable of the inexplicable. He posted the shoes with this description:

Will anyone buy an old stinky pair of shoes? I don’t know. Let’s wait and see. I’ll probably throw some other crap in the box before shipping it, I dunno what.

If you’re one of those kids who tried to take them off my feet while I was crowd surfing at some point this year, nice try jackass. But hey, here’s another opportunity for you to have them.

The shoes ended up going for a whopping $21,100. The proceeds will go to the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. The Salad Days signatory also posted a video of his girlfriend Kira smelling the shoes, for a firsthand account of their actual smelliness (they’re not that bad).

DeMarco also answered some fan questions during the bidding war. Here’s a full list of the questions, with highlights below.

Q: I have bought Salad Days on CD and Vinyl – is this an early sign of upcoming mental health issues? Please advise.

A: Don’t think so. You should be okay

Q: i love you but my mom thinks that you are a reckless hillbilly who does nothing but smoke cigarettes and be foul. can you convince her otherwise? i cant seem to convince her myself. P.S. you should play an all ages show at brooklyn sometime goodbye mac (i love you)

A: Not a hillbilly, just Canadian, there’s a difference. Sorry mom. We’ll do a bk all ages show soon

Q: are the shoes in good condition??

A: They’ll probably last another two months if you wore them every day

Q: hey so whats the deal man?

A: Pee pee!!!

Q: Do you have any interest in trading a jar of ghost cum for your red clown shoes? #slimer Best Jeremiah

A: I don’t think they need any ghost cum at rock camp for girls
