ZHU kept us on tenterhooks when he first started releasing deep dance gems like “Faded” and “Superfriends.” Back then, the producer was known only as “user601586061,” but thanks to some real-live journalism we’ve learned a bit more about the mysterious ZHU—though we’d be wise to remember his reasoning behind the initial anonymity: “As a society, we become more attached to the creator than to the creation. Music is faceless. My music is for a new generation—one in which people appreciate art for its intrinsic value—Generation WHY.”

Today ZHU is back with new music, and although it’s technically a cover, this version of CHVRCHES “Gun” takes the song to an entirely new place. The original sparkly synths are traded in for ZHU’s signature low-key bass and vocal distortion, chilling the whole operation out and giving it new life in the process. Listen below, and compare with the original afterwards.
