With their highly anticipated album Seeds right around the corner, TV on the Radio have released their next single and announced fall tour dates. “Happy Idiot” is a nimble, guitar-driven anthem that showcases lead singer Tunde Adebimpe’s significant vocal chops. The sound has more in common with Interpol or The Strokes than the TVOTR’s earlier work, another chapter of sound for a band that has always been exploring. They’ve also provided an uncomfortably mesmerizing lyric video. I’m not sure what I’m looking at, or why I can’t look away.
Seeds will be the band’s first album since 2011’s Nine Types of Light. It will also be their first without bassist Gerard Smith, who passed away that same year from lung cancer. Since then, we’ve only heard the similarly uptempo “Mercy” and a live version of “Million Miles.”
Watch the lyric video for “Happy Idiot” below, then check out fall tour dates. Seeds will be released in November.
