Willow Beats first popped up on our radar last summer when we included the band in our piece on Australian female musicians to know. At the time, they had just self-released their excellent Alchemy EP, and a year later they are back with new material. “Merewif” finds Narayana Johnson and Kalyani Mumtaz returning to that lush electronic sound they explored on Alchemy, but with a pop approach. It shows clear growth from the uncle-niece duo. Here, they managed to find a balance between experimentation and accessibility, and it works. Listen to “Merewif” below.
