The latest from SPEAK—a synth-pop band based out of Austin—is a triumphant record called “Gates.” The song released just last week and has already amassed over 200,000 streams on Soundcloud. It’s no secret why, though. “Gates” is numbingly emotive, overflowing with energy, and powered by a flawlessly executed, layered buildup in the hook. None of that is to say a cosign from Ellie Goulding hurts in any way, of course, but the quality of the track speaks for itself.
