Back in 2012, Willis Earl Beal signed a five-album deal with independent label XL, through their New York imprint Hot Charity. In the years since, his relationship with the company has become strained due to creative differences, telling The Guardian that XL “wants [him] to do things their way, which is understandable, but [he’s] a former street musician and [he’s] used to doing things differently.”
Later in that same interview, Beal went on to reveal that despite his current situation, he was still hard at work recording music, with a third album nearly finished. Today, almost two months after that interview was published, we get new material from the musician. In a surprise move, Beal has released Curious Cool, a collection of eight songs posted to his Soundcloud. It’s unknown whether this was the aforementioned third album he hinted at, but new music from Beal is never a bad thing. Stream Curious Cool below.
