Today would have been J Dilla’s 40th birthday. But James Yancey died too young eight years ago, victim of a rare blood disease. Slum Village, one of the many collaborations that bear Dilla’s stamp, has commemorated the anniversary by releasing the first single from their upcoming album.
“Yes Yes” is a welcome reminder that Slum Village has remained consistent in both sound and quality despite having to continue making music without an essential member. Illa J, T3 and Young RJ deliver over a soaring Dilla beat, classic as always. Stream below:
