The number of music streaming services in the world increased by one today after the long awaited launch of Beats Music. Curated by a team of industry experts led by Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre, and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, the new platform will look to compete with several existing applications such as Spotify, Rdio, and Google Music.

Described as a “new kind of music streaming service,” Beats Music claims to deliver a highly customizable listening experience to its subscribers. For example it offers unique functions such as the ability to create playlists by vocally describing your current setting or activity, and a social connectivity component that will allow users to follow bands, experts or friends. “Friends of Beats” playlists have already been created by a number of celebrities including Dre, Zedd, Stevie Nicks, and Tom Hanks.

Much like Spotify and other competitors, Beats it is being offered through a premium subscription for $9.99 per month. Visit the official Beats Music website to learn more and start your free 7 day trial.
