The dark, foreboding hip-hop of After The Smoke has released a video for “Can’t Deny,” directed by Loroto and After The Smoke’s Rob Coin.
The video blends animation and live footage, twisting Coin’s face into psychedelic variations of its former self as he pulls on a cigar. The image is distorted by flecks of bad film, scratches, and penciled animation, leaving Coin more of a specter than performer.
“Can’t Deny” is off the just-dropped Microwaves mixtape, a collection of lush instrumentation that combines pieces of Outkast and Kendrick Lamar to create a sound that belongs solely to the young New York transplant. You can stream that mixtape after the video finishes above.
