Kanye West is Suing YouTube Founder Chad Hurley

Chad Hurley, co-founder and ex-CEO of YouTube, has a new project. It’s called Mixbit, and it’s trying to compete with Vine and Instagram, allowing users to upload and share short video clips. If you hadn’t ever heard of it before, you were probably introduced about a week ago, when a Mixbit video of Kanye West proposing to Kim Kardashian hit the Internet. When it first appeared on the web, it was exclusively on Mixbit. As of right now, that video had been viewed 1.62 million times.

So how did that video end up on Mixbit? Chad Hurley filmed it. He was at the private event at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Oct. 21, where Kanye decided to propose. He uploaded the two-and-a-half minute video himself, put out a press release about it, and used all his social media outlets to make sure the video spread. Kanye and Kim are not happy about it. They’re taking Chad Hurley to court.

According to Kanye and Kim, Chad wasn’t invited to the event and was only allowed to come after he signed a non-disclosure form. According to TMZ, video rights for the event were meant to go to producers of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but Chad leaked the video to draw attention to MixBit. No word on how much they’re suing for, but according to Celebrity Net Worth, Chad Hurley is worth around $335 million.
