Coming off the release of his second album with Party Supplies, Action Bronson took some time to talk to us about Blue Chips II, being a father, and controversy in the media.
So, Blue Chips 2, man.. how did it feel to link up with Party Supplies again especially after he put out his own album Tough Love?
His own album to me is amazing, man. We been working throughout the whole time, we work simultaneously. His album to me is one of the best things that’s come out in fucking years. It didn’t get enough credit as it should. For him to be able to go from that world and come right back and do fucking legendary mixtapes with me is pretty special, you know.
What’s the biggest change between Blue Chips and Blue Chips 2?
I don’t know, I haven’t looked at it like that. I can’t really call it from that point, you guys gonna have to figure that one out.
What’s your favorite song on there?
My favorite joint at the moment is “Amadu Diablo.”
Can we expect the official debut LP soon?
Listen, I’m already working on it but that’s why there’s a company behind it. I don’t have to worry about doing that shit. All this shit, you know, I’m giving it out for free and I want to make sure everyone has it. The label has to worry about that. They signed me. It’s not my fucking problem.
People try and attack your character for whatever reasons—how do you combat that and keep it moving?
I have a very short memory. Most of the things these people write about, I want to know what kind of people they are in their life. If you come to one of my shows and you don’t enjoy something that is being done, then you shouldn’t be there. You know what I mean? It’s very simple. Why would you wanna put yourself through that? God forbid, oh my God, it’s such heart-wrenching and terrible things going on at these shows that you have to fucking attack me. Attacks of character, like… you can’t attack somebody’s character especially when they’re comfortable with their lives and themselves.
I don’t know what type of person someone would think I am. I’m a great man, I’m a great father, I’m a great everything. But I’m also a shithead. I’m not the greatest human.
If someone’s uncomfortable and definitely self-conscious and know that they’re a schmuck then that type of psychology can work. But on me, that’s not going to work. I know who I am. I know what I represent. I know how I am. If I do something wrong, I apologize. If I’m a fucking schmuck I apologize. I know when I’m wrong. Sometimes I don’t, sometimes someone tells me and then I see it and I figure it out. But I’m not this type of person, I don’t know what type of person someone would think I am. I’m a great man, I’m a great father, I’m a great everything. But I’m also a shithead. I’m not the greatest human. Show me one that is.
How do you balance being a father and an artist?
That’s totally separate. I’m a father first. Fuck the artist. It’s all about the kids, I do this shit for my children. It didn’t start off like that but shit, I’m making money off of it and that’s definitely what it’s about. It’s definitely about the preservation of my children.
What’s been your favorite place you’ve visited this year?
Australia and New Zealand earlier on in the year. It was amazing, life-changing shit.
When is the Big Body Bes album coming out?
Shit, we’re working on it. I know, man, it’s going to be all him talking his shit with select verses here and there from select people. It’s going to be the first of its kind.
What are your predictions for the NBA this season? Lots of quality teams this year.
I know you know I’m a big Knicks fan, I’m not going to be biased but I’ll tell you this much: The Knicks have a great chance.
It seems like molly is fading away, what do you think the next drug of choice in rap will be?
I don’t fucking know, people should start taking rush. People should start taking nuke.
What’s the biggest misconception about Action Bronson?
Possibly that I’m a misogynistic human being in life. Like I hate women or something like that or treat them terribly, which is unheard of. I talk crazy about everything, I just don’t talk crazy about women. Just because you’re a woman doesn’t mean you’re not a piece of shit. So I don’t give a fuck, you guys wanna talk all that equality and women’s rights and this and that bullshit. Everyone should be themselves and be free. Just don’t come at me on some bullshit, you can be a piece of fucking garbage also.
What are some things you’ve taken away from this year as it winds down?
Just work hard and shit comes to you. Just got to stay focused on what you want and know what exactly what you feel in your heart and just go for it.
And what are you going for?
I’m just going for what I’m going for, man. Just going for it. That’s it.
