10 Notorious B.I.G. Mash-Ups That Don't Suck

Love it or hate it, you'll probably find yourself, at some point in life, nodding along to a Biggie mash-up. Producers just can't help themselves—Biggie had one of those buttery deliveries that seems to melt into whatever beat you put him over, and the fact that he died too young creates a shortage of material that makes DJs and beatmakers eager to create something "new" out of something old. Take The Notorious B.I.G. out of his original context and sometimes it feels downright disrespectful. Every now and then though, you end up with something awesome. Here are 10 Biggie mash-ups that don't suck.

2. Biggie vs. Michael Jackson

Done by: DOSVEC

Songs used: Michael Jackson - "Billie Jean" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Nasty Girl"

Biggie was one of the rawest rappers of all time, but he was also one of the smoothest. Over the "Billie Jean" production, Biggie's smooth side shines.

3. Biggie vs. Lana Del Rey

Done by: Double O

Songs used: Lana Del Rey -"Lucky Ones" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Everyday Struggle"

For the Terry Urban-presented Born Ready To Die—you guessed it—Biggie gets mashed with Lana Del Rey. With all different producers taking a stab at it, the results were varied, but a couple tracks from the project, including this one from Double O, found a sweet spot between Lana and Biggie that we never knew existed.

4. Biggie vs. Frank Sinatra

Done by: DJ Cappell & Smitty

Songs used: Frank Sinatra - "A Day in the Life of a Fool" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Everyday Struggle"

On Blue Eyes Meets Bed-Stuy, DJ Cappell & Smitty mashed Frank Sinatra with The Notorious B.I.G. for some gritty New York vibes. There isn't anything flashy about this, which is a big part of why it doesn't suck. When you're working with Biggie, simplicity is key.

5. Biggie vs. Miley

Done by: Andrew Hathaway

Songs used: Miley Cyrus - "Party in the U.S.A." and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Party & Bullshit"

The combination of Miley Cyrus and Biggie is considered sacrilegious to some, but this funny/playful type of juxtaposition is part of the mash-up culture that will not ever go away, and every now and then, it yields something as perfect as "Party & Bullshit in the USA."

6. Biggie vs. The xx

Done by: wait what

Songs used: The xx - "Intro" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Dead Wrong"

"Intro" by The xx has been used for many mash-ups, and it almost never fails to sound awesome. Throw a little Biggie on that? It just makes sense.

7. Biggie vs. Tom Petty

Done by: The White Panda

Songs used: Tom Petty - "Free Fallin'" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Mo Money Mo Problems"

8. Biggie vs. Led Zeppelin

Done by: DJ Muggs

Songs used: Led Zeppelin - "Whole Lotta Love" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Dead Wrong"

Here is "Whole Lotta Biggie," for anyone who has ever wondered what it would have sounded like if Diddy had decided guitar solos in hip-hop were the next big thing.

9. Biggie vs. Flume

Done by: DJ Jaymee Franchina & Jeremy Smith

Songs used: Flume - "Ezra" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Sky is the Limit"

Australian DJs Jaymee Franchina and Jeremy Smith wanted to infuse Biggie with a little Aussie flavor, so they made up a whole mash-up album full of Flume and Biggie mixes. Listen to "Ezra's Limit" below, and check out the whole B.I.G. Flume tape here.

10. Biggie & 2Pac vs. Kanye & Jay Z

Done by: DJ Dinero

Songs used: Frank Sinatra - "A Day in the Life of a Fool" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Everyday Struggle"

DJ Dinero took Jay Z and Kanye West's Watch The Throne and laced the production with some Biggie and Pac verses. This one is fun just because you can't help but think of the "Otis" video starring Big and Pac.

11. Biggie vs. Lorde

Who did it: Scott Melker

Songs used: Lorde - "Royals" and The Notorious B.I.G. - "Juicy"

It's a weird thing how after all these years, we keep going back to "Juicy." It's a classic, and while some rap goes out of fashion as new trends rush in, "Juicy" remains timeless. Here it is mashed with the current No. 1 song in the country, Lorde's "Royals."
